Finding Our Way Home
We are being ordered to
Shelter in place,
To go to our homes
And to stay there.
We believe we know
How to do this;
Make sure we have enough food
To feed us,
Enough liquid
To hydrate us,
Enough medicine to
Keep us well,
And leave only to replenish
What we most need.
We are being sent home.
But can we find our way there?
Or have we travelled too far
And too fast?
How do we re-trace our steps
Over ground we have let
Grow barren under our feet?
How do we re-train our eyes
To see the distant horizon
Beyond the blue screen?
How do we nourish our spirits
To know hope and love and courage
Instead of fear and hate?
We begin by remembering.
To hold each other close
To seek the truth
To listen deeply
To be present
To help
To be helped
To put one foot in front of the other
And walk together to the other side
We begin by remembering
That we are all connected
That the light is stronger than the darkness
That we have all been called
And in answering
We will help each other
To find our way home again.
