I Pray Now On My Knees
I pray now
On my knees,
Like when I was a child
At my grandmother’s home.
Her worn knees
No longer made it possible for her,
I knelt on her behalf.
That’s what I told myself.
Now I kneel
On behalf of all the world,
Of all those I know
And those I do not know,
Of all those I love
And those I do not love,
Of those who will suffer
And those who will not,
Of those who will live,
And those who will die.
I pray to her,
And to all who have gone before me,
Those who sacrificed for me
And those who sacrificed for all,
Those who knew me
And those who know all others,
Those that loved me
And those who love all others,
Those who have suffered
And those who have not.
I pray for wisdom
And strength
And hope
And courage.
I pray for a miracle
Not knowing what that might mean.
But, praying it will bring
Healing
Justice
And peace.
