Purgatory: A Place of Longing
We are three weeks now
Sheltering in place.
Because I cannot live my former life
I get in the car to drive thru it.
Everything is behind the veil of the pandemic
Stores restaurant theaters churches homes.
It all exists in suspended animation
Before my eyes far from my touch.
This is limbo purgatory
A temporary place of longing.
This is where the world awaits the sacrifice
It will take to free us from this in-between.
I pray it will not be so great
That it will break our hearts and our spirits.
Try not to temper your aspirations
For the future with fear.
Dream yourself and our world
Into a resplendent abundant tomorrow.
